Ways to Give
Trustees for Alaska was established in 1974 to provide legal support to environmental organizations and community groups concerned about the impacts of construction of the Trans Alaska Pipeline System on the environment of Arctic and Interior Alaska, including impacts to water quality and wildlife habitat. Our mission has grown since our inception to include advocacy work and litigation dealing with oil and gas development, mining, hazardous waste management, air pollution, water pollution, wetlands management, land use management and protection of marine ecosystems. Trustees' successes over the past 31 years have set significant legal precedent in environmental law on both a state and national level.

Trustees for Alaska depends upon individual donations to fulfill our mission of protecting and sustaining Alaska's rich natural environment. Requests for help on new issues come in on an almost daily basis. Trustees' policy of adopting a case based solely on its merits means that we take cases regardless of the client's ability to pay. Your donation not only provides Trustees for Alaska with the necessary resources to continue vital work on the front lines of Alaska's legal environmental battles, but it also provides you with valuable insight and updates on current litigation and environmental issues facing Alaska through Legal Briefs, our monthly electronic updates, and The Environmental Advocate, our semi-annual newsletter.

There are several ways you can support the work of Trustees for Alaska:

Gifts of Cash
Gifts of cash are a convenient way to support Trustees' work. Cash gifts can be made via cash, check, or credit card. They are tax-deductible for the calendar year in which they are made. For your convenience, we are now able to accept your credit card donation through this website. Just click on the "Give Online" button. Our secure server is fast and easy. You will receive the appropriate acknowledgment for your tax records. PLEASE NOTE! Trustees for Alaska is using a third party processor to ensure secure credit card transactions. As a result, the charge on your credit card statement will identify "LICA-GiveDirect" instead of Trustees for Alaska. You may also simply send your contribution to:

Gifts of Appreciated Assets
Gifts of publically-traded stock, real estate, or other appreciated assets can be a mutually beneficial way of contributing to Trustees for Alaska. As the donor, you receive a tax deduction for the fair market value of the gift, subject to certain limitations. You may also avoid capital gains taxes. Trustees will be able to sell your donated assets without incurring tax liability, and put all the proceeds into Trustees' work protecting Alaska's rich natural resources.

Bequests
You may make a donation to Trustees through your Last Will and Testament. Your Will allows you, not the state, to determine the distribution of your assets upon your death, and gives you the opportunity to reflect the importance of Trustees' work in your life. Your options include but are not limited to, naming Trustees as the recipient of a stated sum, or contingent bequest, or as the residuary beneficiary of your estate. Trustees recommends that you consult with an estate lawyer who can explain these and other options of bequesting a gift to Trustees more fully.

Retirement Plans
Naming Trustees for Alaska as the beneficiary of your IRA, SEP-IRA, 401(k), 403(b) or other retirement plan assets can have significant estate tax advantages. It is as easy as notifying your plan administrator of your wishes. For a retirement plan that is self-administered, you should notify the custodian in writing and keep a copy of the notification with your Will. Sometimes special rules and limitations apply to qualified plans and similar interests.
